MODEL HI-TECH VEGETABLE SEEDLING PRODUCTION CENTRE

A fully automated  Plug type  Vegetable Seedling Production unit with an annual  production capacity of 2 crores vegetable seedlings is commissioned at Nadukkara , Ernakulam . This will ensure the timely  availability of good quality planting materials to farmers. Vegetable Seedlings of hybrids and high yielding varieties suitable to Kerala conditions  are made available to public from the unit. Cool season  Vegetable seedlings are also  available in planting season.  Vegetable seedling produced from this unit are also available in our Krishi Business Kendras.

TISSUE CULTURE PLANTS

A modern laboratory capable of producing upto 50000 Tissue Culture Plantlets per month has begun its commercial operations in the year 2009. Explant initiation, multiplication and rooting stages in culturing are carried out in the laboratory.

Virus infected suckers have been the biggest enemy of Banana Farmers for decades. Virus indexed tissue culture plantlets are VFPCK’s remedy to this long standing problem. Shoot buds are developed from suckers collected from disease free High Yielding varieties of Banana. The plantlets are then shifted to the hardening chamber for acclimatization and development. Primary and secondary hardening operations take a total of 90 days duration. The hardened plants are then ready for sale. Most popular varieties suitable to the state like Nendran, Robusta, Red Banana, Grandnaine variety etc., are propagated.  Tissue culture plants are available at our Krishi Business Kendras, Seed processing plant, Alathur, Palakkad and other production units.

FRUIT PLANTS

Variety of Fruit plants including exotic type fruit plants are available with VFPCK.   Fruit Plants like Miracle fruit, Durian, Rambuttan, Dragon Fruit, Bread Fruit etc   and different types of coconut seedlings in polybags are available in our Krishi Bunisses Kendras and Seed Processing Plant, Alathur, Palakkad.

KRISHI BUSINESS KENDRA (KBK)

Krishi Business Kendra (KBK) is a retail centre for supply of good quality fruit and vegetable seedlings, ready for sale at reasonable prices to public.  Apart from Fruit and Vegetable seedlings, flowering plants, organic inputs and farm and garden implements are available for sale.  KBK is established in Kakkanad in Ernakulam, Anayara in Trivandrum and Vidyanagar in Kasargode districts.  VFPCK intends to start KBKs in all the districts of the State in near future.
